The pointleaf manzanita of Southeastern Arizona produces the earliest of all the flowers in the spring. Manzanita means little apple in Spanish and the fruit is edible especially if you get it when it just turns red. Butterflies and bees like the flowers. The plant is quite beautiful because of its red bark but it is very difficult to domesticate.
